In 2003, when Salma Hayek was in San Miguel—down the street from here—filming “Once Upon a Time in Mexico” with Antonio Banderas, she was quoted in the local press as saying, “I think this must be the loveliest town I have ever seen.” The town was enamored of her as well. During breaks while making the film, Salma strolled the streets around the Jardin/Town Square, followed by a gaggle of children. Their mothers scolded them, telling them to give the star some privacy. But she smiled at the mothers and said, “They are no bother…they are the future of the world.”

The Salma Hayek Loft is a cozy ground-floor apartment accommodating three guests. This charming one-bedroom loft features 1 ½ baths and a fully equipped kitchen. Second-floor private studio apartment located in the heart of downtown San Miguel de Allende
Dolores Del Rio was the most famous Mexican star in cinema history. Possessed of an otherworldly loveliness, she was the match of Garbo, Dietrich, and Crawford. She was frequently called the “Princess of México.” Dolores usually stayed with her good friend, the great clown Cantinflas, when she visited San Miguel between films. Del Rio loved it here because she could wander around the Mercado in Centro unnoticed under an oversized bonnet and behind dark glasses—quite a feat for one of the most public personalities of her age.

Anthony Quinn was the Godfather of Mexican Cinema Actors, probably the most outstanding movie character actor ever, playing Arabs, Native Americans, Asians, Italians, Ukrainians, Greeks …and Mexicans. Quinn stayed at the Sierra Nevada on his frequent visits to San Miguel to rest between films and other adventures. He loved the slow pace of this town, its traditions, its refined culture, and unique ways of embracing visitors.

Although SMA was having a “heatwave,” (high of 82 with no humidity), the apartment had good ventilation (no AC) and was always comfortable.
One evening, I was on the rooftop and realized I had not brought my key. I called Jose and he was there in 5 minutes.
The rooftop is spectacular!
The spiral staircase could present a problem if you are not strong or agile, but I’m 70 y.o. and had no problem. The neighborhood is fantastic. Like a lot of Mexico, it can be noisy. Those are the sounds of Mexico! People talking, singing; bands playing in the distance, and yes some barking dogs. No noises lasted very long and it was always silent by 10:00 PM.
I loved the location— so close to the action, but not too close.
I was there for three weeks and they just flew by!
Such a lovely little place and in a wonderful location! José, the man who helped us check in, was incredibly kind, helpful, and responsive. The little veranda on top of the building was so dreamy and peaceful. Can’t wait to stay again!
This is a lovely Airbnb. It’s exactly as it appears in the photos with the beautiful fireplace, lovely wooden wall with closet and drawers, and that sweet little kitchen. It’s small but perfect for a solo traveler or even for two. The location could not be better! The best restaurant I found in the city is on our block and I’m close to everything here. Would definitely stay here again.

We loved how close we were to the historic centre. This place is well cared for. We were happy for the gas fireplace in the evenings in November. Very cosy.
This place was amazing and really big for a studio. King size bed , cold and hot water. The water pressure was perfect! The neighborhood was very safe and quiet. Check in was very easy, the hosts even provided information for transportation to and from the airport. I highly recommend staying here.
